Friendship with Service
At present the Club in Ayr has 32 ladies of various ages from all walks of life. Our numbers allow us to function with three sub-committees - Community, International and Social. A typical afternoon includes lunch if desired, followed at 2.00pm by a presentation on topics spanning from international projects to talks on personal safety and wellbeing. The afternoon is rounded off with Club business and a 'cuppa' at about 3.30pm.
Although friendship is a key focus, interlaced with it is a strong element of service to help in practical ways or fundraising for those in greater need in the community or farther afield. During the Covid lockdowns we had to rethink some of our activities and by alternative means were managed to support Ayrshire Hospice, South Ayrshire Womens' Aid, Blythswood Care, Aquabox and Mary's Meals. Working together encourages a 'pooling' of ideas, resources, skills and interests and, for some, an opportunity to enhance skills or tackle new ones!
Smaller social 'interest' groups run in tandem with club activities. These include reading, walking, crafting and social outings. What better way of getting to know 'like-minded' folk by working together. There really is something for everyone and all in a genuine spirit of service and friendship.
Club meetings are on the first Thursday of the month in the Savoy Park Hotel, Racecourse Road, Ayr.
